The Character You're Trying to Hit

Good kewda has three layers: a fresh green-rosy top, a sweet honeyed heart, and a soft smoky-woody base. Miss any one and it reads as "generic floral" instead of kewda. The honeyed heart is what buyers recognise — get that right and the fragrance sells.

Core Building Blocks

Phenyl Ethyl Alcohol gives the rosy freshness. Phenyl Acetic Acid and its esters deliver the honeyed sweetness that defines kewda. Para Cresyl Methyl Ether (PCME) in small doses adds the characteristic smoky-narcissus facet. A touch of Beta Ionone rounds it with a soft woody-violet depth. All four are burn-stable, which is why kewda holds up so well in agarbatti.

A practical starting frame for 1kg compound: 25% Phenyl Ethyl Alcohol, 15% honeyed esters (Phenyl Acetic Acid derivatives), 3–5% PCME, 5% Beta Ionone, fixatives (Benzyl Benzoate + a musk) at 8%, balance DEP. Always burn-test — PCME especially can turn harsh if overdosed.
